Council approves minutes, declares vacancy

In a 7-6 vote, the Memphis City Council approved the minutes of its previous meeting today, officially declaring a vacancy in the mayor's office effective July 30. The vote paves the way for the Shelby County Election Commission to start planning for a special election to replace retiring Mayor Willie Herenton, which will likely take place in mid-October.

In the video below, Councilman Joe Brown argued that members Myron Lowery, Jim Strickland and Kemp Conrad should not vote on the minutes because they are potential candidates in the special election and, thus, have a conflict of interest. They voted anyway.

I was against Obama's big ears socialism medical plan but after seeing Joe "ignorant" Brown open his mouth, we really need to help that man fix those fangs. You could drive a semi thru that gap
